The first time I saw this webcomic on Webtoons (a popular manga/comic app), it appeared in the form of a reading challenge: reading 20 episodes to get 7 coins. Since I wanted the coins to unlock chapters in other comics, I decided to read it. However, as I read more and more, I became so absorbed by Suho Kim’s (or rather Master Lloyd’s) personality and funny facial expressions that I continued reading past the 20 chapters. The plot goes like this: Suho Kim, a civil engineering student in Korea, gets transmigrated into a fantasy novel he was reading before falling asleep. He wakes up in the body of Lloyd Frontera, who not only is an alcoholic, but his family has so much debt piled up despite the fact that they are nobles!     We Were Liars by E. Lockhart is the perfect mystery for those who enjoy books that will keep them hooked until the very end. It took me a while to get into the story in the beginning, but I finished it and found it to be worth the read. It is a combination of mystery, family secrets, and a touch of romance.  The story revolves around a girl named Cadence Sinclair who comes from a very privileged wealthy family. She spends her summer on a private island owned by her grandfather, Harris Sinclair, who has control over the power and privilege that comes with wealth. Her two aunts, Carrie and Bessie along with her cousins all meet on the island during the summer. She spends her days with her cousins Mirren and Johnny along with Gat who is Carrie’s boyfriends nephew. Gat is indian and he has been coming to the island for a few years now.   And Then There Were None book review Just a few years ago, I read my first murder mystery, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder , and really enjoyed it. Since then, I have become a lover of any type of murder mystery so when I was recommended the book And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie I wanted to read it. The book opens with ten people who were invited to an island by someone claiming to be a person each one of them knows. None of them know each other and, upon further inspection, the person inviting them is different for each and every person. Their host isn’t there to greet them either, only two servants who were sent to the island a week earlier, by an unknown employer.   I’m going to be honest— this was not the book I intended to post about this week, but, it turns out that, when you read a book good enough for you to finish it in a matter of two days, you end up kind of wanting to talk about it (who would have thought?). The Sunbearer Trials is a book written by Aiden Thomas, the author behind the New York Times best selling novel Cemetery Boys . Inspired by Mexican-folklore, this fantasy novel is complete with absolutely jaw-dropping descriptions, a fantastic plot, beautiful and heart-felt scenes, and a large cast of colorful characters that just made the novel just such a joy to read. Throughout every single moment, the writing Aiden Thomas offers is nothing short of incredible. The way he crafts these lush, varied, and vivid descriptions that just completely immerses you in the novel is just utterly and so far beyond me.   Keeper of the Lost Cities: a Series Overview When my sister pushed me into reading the Keeper of the Lost Cities series by Shannon Messenger when I was in fifth grade, I wasn’t expecting much. However, little did I know I would be invested in this series all throughout middle school. There are currently 9 books in the series (technically 10, but the 9th book only consists of half the story, while the other half contains artwork and information about the Lost Cities). Book 9.5 will be coming out in December of 2024. There is due to be a final book, though it will definitely not be coming out this year. The current books consist of Keeper of the Lost Cities, Exile, Everblaze, Neverseen, Loadstar, Nightfall, Flashback, Legacy, Unlocked, and Stellarlune.       The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins will always be my favorite dystopian book series. I fell in love with the genre after reading it for the first time in 5th grade. It was like a whole new world I entered. Back then, I always thought that the main character, Katniss Everdeen, was so old. As I look back at it now, I realize she was so young, being only 16 at the time.        The story centers around Katniss Everdeen who volunteers to take her 12 year old sister's place in the annual Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a nationally televised event when one girl and one boy between the ages 12-18 are selected by lottery to participate in a fight to death until one remains. The last person alive gets awarded as the "victor" and gets to live in the wealthiest part of their district called the Victor's Village.   I love dystopian novels, anything from the genre I will read and probably enjoy. One day, I decided to read one of Neal Shusterman’s books, Unwind , which probably scarred me for life, so my brilliant brain thought “Hey! Why not read another” so here we are.  Scythe takes place far in the future, where humans have eliminated hunger, disease, and even death. However, with the human population out of control, society created a force of people called “scythes” with licenses to kill, each having to glean a specific number of people each week. Scythes are treated as elite beings, because they are the sole causes of death in the world. Citra and Rowan are pulled from their friends and families to become apprentices to a scythe and have to learn the “art” of killing. Ok, so… this book is hard to read.
